The School of Agriculture and Environment, Massey University, is seeking applicants to apply for the position of Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Horticultural Science and Production. The purpose of this position is to contribute to leading the enhancement and development of Horticultural Science and Production in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally through; learning and qualification outcomes of Massey University’s Undergraduate and Postgraduate students; effective research and leadership of research teams, publications, postgraduate research supervision, securing external funding and fostering industry connections, and by providing administrative and professional service to the university and the broader academic, professional and general communities and providing academic leadership to the School, College, University and wider discipline and industry.

A PhD or equivalent qualification in Horticultural Science or a related discipline is essential.

The successful applicant will have the following:

  • Demonstrated a sustained world-class standard of relevant research activity and outputs that evidences distinctive levels of peer recognition and esteem
  • Practical understanding of working within, and ideally leading a research/extension/teaching environment; have a good understanding of New Zealand and global horticulture (including but not limited to fruit, vegetables, weed management and native plants), and horticultural industries; have an excellent research review, analysis and dissemination background
  • Experience in collaborating with relevant industries
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students
  • Experience in use of innovative teaching and assessment methods in undergraduate teaching.
  • Experience in writing scientific papers and successful research grants and contracts and the management of these grants and contracts
  • Experience with leading research teams and significantly sized research programmes
  • Experienced in the use of electronic and online technologies in teaching and outreach/extension
