Who we are/Ko wai mātou

The University Union is a commercial University owned operation comprising of 20 business units across campus. The Union's business units are divided into three major areas of operation, College Catering, Retail and Food & Beverage. The College Catering operation caters onsite to 2500 students residing at 10 University Colleges.

The role/Te mahi

We are seeking an experienced Senior Chef to assist with the management of our food service operations in our Hayward College kitchen. This hands-on position will be responsible for the production of high-quality meals and the supervision of staff. You will be an effective leader with the vision and work ethic to maintain and further develop an already high performing food service.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for candidates with:
•    Previous experience in the hospitality industry.
•    Preferably a fully qualified Chef (City of London Guilds or equivalent).
•    Very strong customer service focus.
•    Outstanding communication skills.
•    Experience operating a food safety program.
•    Experienced delivering high quality, varied and nutritious meals, considering any special dietary needs.

A high level of competency and the ability to work as part of a team is important. The successful applicant would have the ability to help develop a mutual respect between primary customers and staff.

This is a full time (40 hours per week), fixed term position, available until Sunday, 17 November 2024, located in Dunedin.

The hours of work are Tuesday – Thursday 8am – 4:30pm, Friday and Saturday 10am – 6:30pm

The salary range for appointments is $29.72 to $31.12 per hour.
