Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 28 Jan 2024

Researcher

This position will contribute to research and consultancy programmes that investigate ecosystem greenhouse gas exchange and carbon and nitrogen storage and cycling in grassland, cropping and forest systems. The objective of the research is to measure emissions and provide solutions for mitigating emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change on ecosystem services across plot, field, and landscape scales.

This position is open term, full time, reports to Capability Leader, Land Use and Ecosystems Team, and is based at our Lincoln site.

You will possess a PhD in atmospheric, environmental, plant or soil science (with an emphasis on climate change mitigation and adaptation) or related discipline (recently qualified). You will demonstrate expertise in at least one of the following: processes that regulate greenhouse gas emissions, atmospheric transport processes, or carbon and nitrogen cycling. You will have some experience in conducting fieldwork to measure environmental variables. It will be advantageous if this includes installation and management of instrumentation for greenhouse gas measurements. Experience with data processing and interpretation of measurements with eddy covariance or other micrometeorological methods is required. Knowledge of techniques for spatial scaling of processes from field plots to landscapes is desirable. You will be a well-organised, flexible, pragmatic, and reliable individual who enjoys working as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team.
