Our Department

 

The Department of Surgical Sciences, located at Dunedin Hospital, is a major teaching and research department within the Dunedin School of Medicine. Our Department consists of nine Departmental sections and several Research Units.

 

The Role

 

As a Research Fellow, you will work within the Brai3n research units and will investigate the effects of infra-slow neurofeedback on the cardiovascular autonomic nervous system. You will also be actively involved in the development of studies exploring the use of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques in the treatment of various diseases.

 

Key responsibilities:

• Co-ordinating clinical trials (ethics application, locality agreement).

• Collection of data (EEG, ISF-neurofeedback).

• Supervising postgraduate students (MSc, PhD) involved in the study.

• Analyses of results (sLORETA, EEGLab, SPSS).

• Manuscript preparation.

• Forming collaborations with other research units within the Brai3n research groups (Departments of Medicine, Psychological Medicine).

• Seeking external funding for research projects.

• Protocol development, data collection, analyses and manuscript preparation.

 

Your Skills and Experience

 

• Tertiary qualifications (PhD level) with extensive knowledge on effects of non-invasive neuromodulation in health and disease.

• Extensive skills in EEG and non-invasive neuromodulation techniques including infraslow neurofeedback training and transcranial stimulation devices.

• Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the planning, progression and supervision of non-invasive neuromodulation in healthy and clinical populations.

• Excellent writing skills, including evidence of ability to publish scientific papers in scientific journals.
