Who we are


The Department of General Practice and Rural Health is an academic unit within the Dunedin School of Medicine. It was the first university department of general practice in New Zealand and is one of the oldest in the world.


Staff in this department come from a wide variety of disciplines and are involved in teaching and research in the fields of general practice and primary care.


The role


As a Research Fellow, you will join a Health Research South Funded Project within our Department of General Practice and Rural Health.


You will work with Professor Tim Stokes (Academic Lead) and the southern health system (through a health sector – university partnership) to evaluate the implementation of the Southern Primary and Community Strategy.


The aim of this three-year programme of research is to evaluate the implementation of the Southern Primary and Community Strategy, including its headline service delivery and enabling infrastructure actions, in order to improve healthcare delivery for people in the SDHB region and, crucially, build on-going evaluation capacity within the Southern health system.


Your skills and experience


• PhD research qualification required.

• Research experience, in both qualitative and quantitative health research methods.

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Experience in writing and/or evaluating research proposals.

• Proven ability to project manage research projects and meet agreed timeframes.

This is a full or part-time position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) for 36 months.
