Research Fellow - General Practice (Christchurch)-2000382

GENERAL PRACTICE DEPARTMENT
UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, CHRISTCHURCH

Who We Are

The University of Otago, Christchurch is the base for medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch. We collaborate closely in our research and student programmes with the region’s hospitals run by the Canterbury District Health Board, and other community health agencies.

Our departmental research interests cover a wide range of primary care activity and we are actively involved in a range of clinical trials and observational studies. Current research interests include primary care musculoskeletal conditions, innovative models of care, pharmacovigilance, and shared decision making. In all of our research, we aim to generate information that will have immediate clinical impact for patients and providers in primary care.

In addition to links with our sister primary care departments across the country, we have active research collaborations with other specialities locally and nationally, and we work closely with Pegasus Health, the region’s largest Primary Health Organisation. Pegasus holds a large and rich dataset relating to many aspects of primary care activity; this has formed the basis of several successful collaborations with Pegasus and we are keen to develop this part of our work further.

The Department provides undergraduate teaching modules in general practice for 4th and 6th (trainee intern) year students. These modules are highly regarded by our students and all academic staff are involved in their delivery.
