Post Doctoral Research Fellow

The School of Social Sciences & Public Policy is looking for Research Fellow to contribute to the research activities of the Climate Innovation Lab, funded by public agencies, private sector agencies, philanthropy, and research funding programmes. The Climate Innovation Lab designs and develops solutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 13: Climate Action, through innovation in sustainable finance and climate change policy. 0.9 FTE.

The successful applicants will have:

  • a PhD qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. business, economics, policy, politics, geography, environmental studies).
  • Knowledge of sustainable finance and climate change or environmental policy
  • Experience in identifying relevant literature, research, policy, and planning initiatives.
  • Knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its obligations
  • Knowledge and practice in the principles of equity and diversity
  • This position suits someone who is a diverse thinker, who has an enquiring mind, and can recognise patterns, trends, and consequences without prompting from others. Can work on own initiative, work effectively to milestones and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake primary and secondary research using a variety of methods including working with secondary data.
  • Demonstrate high level communication skills including strong written and oral communication skills in English. Demonstrated and strong writing and report preparation skills. Can explain concepts and complex ideas clearly, whether verbally or in writing.
  • Ability to work in the relational sphere as a partner to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Ability to think logically and objectively and analyse complex information in order to identify key issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work co-operatively with colleagues, community, and industry partners at all levels. Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage in community outreach.
  • Intermediate level of competency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A strong intent to deliver real-world impact that supports climate mitigation and adaptation.
  • Ability to work autonomously to co-ordinate and deliver multiple simultaneous research projects, including managing timelines, complex tasks, varying workloads and changing priorities.
  • Is responsive and flexible to changing requirements and priorities and able to adapt to unpredictable circumstance.
  • Collaborative attitude, being able to work within and support the broader team to create the best outcomes for the project and the Climate Innovation Lab.

The role will involve working closely with the Lab's Director to provide additional research and administrative capacity to deliver on the Lab's commitments.
