Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is recruiting a Research Fellow for a new “Digital Mental Health Catalyst”. This is a new initiative which has two key goals:

  • To be a visible and distinctive HealthTech unit, carrying out transformational research in digital tools for mental health and wellbeing (primary goal).
  • To increase visibility and connectivity across Digital Health at Te Herenga Waka. Develop a business case for increased digital health opportunities (secondary goal).

The Research Fellow will join the team on a 12-month fixed term 0.8FTE contract to support the establishment of the initiative.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the development of external funding applications.
  • Contribute as a co-author to academic publications in digital mental health.
  • Support Māori leadership and the Māori advisory group.
  • Contribute to the business case for phase two of this initiative.
  • Support project management and relationship development with key stakeholders. This includes supporting mental health sector relationships, collaborations with digital health stakeholders and supporting the development of digital health at Te Herenga Waka as agreed with co-directors.

You will be a motivated researcher in an area of digital interventions or online approaches for mental health or wellbeing and will be excited to take on an opportunity to develop this area at Te Herenga Waka.

You will be committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to improved research, health outcomes and equity.

You will be an excellent communicator and collaborator.

Key Requirements – essential:

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a Te Tiriti and equity framework.
  • A relevant Master or PhD degree.
  • Experience in writing scientific articles.
  • Ability to work in an organised and structured manner without supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Selection criteria – desirable:

  • A PhD in Digital Mental Health.
  • Demonstrated competence in leading mental health research projects.
  • Demonstrated competence in leading digital health research projects.
  • Experience in working in mental health and with clinical service providers.
  • Skills in project development or leading new initiatives.
  • Experience working with software development teams.
  • Experience in agile and mixed methods research including co-design, user engagement and trials.
