Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The University of Auckland (lead Associate Professor Stephen Howie), in partnership with Cure Kids, has been working with stakeholders in Fiji, notably the Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services, to address high priority childhood illnesses, with a focus on respiratory infections and Rheumatic Heart Disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted Fiji significantly, has increased the urgency of this work. As part of Aotearoa New Zealand’s support for Fiji’s COVID-19 response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has awarded a grant, administered by Cure Kids, for health system strengthening and research. This fellowship, funded through this grant, increases capacity within the University of Auckland to contribute to Fiji’s COVID response, undertaking relevant research and other activities addressing paediatric and population health priorities within Fiji and beyond.

The Fellowship provides salary support for 2 years. The salary support package is set at the Lecturers/Research Fellows scale at the University of Auckland.
