Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Research Assistant to be part of a research team and organise two hui and aid with research activity around Māori waiata, oriori and traditional music techniques.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Liaise with stakeholders involved in the co-design process of the design and development of a prototype of a labour specific virtual reality environment.
  • Liaise with local iwi to organise an initial hui to develop partnership and co-design processes with stakeholders.
  • Conduct initial research to identify and evaluate use of waiata and oriori in labour and birth. This is to inform the identification of traditional Māori music with potential integration into a prototype labour specific virtual reality environment.
  • Organise a second hui, to consolidate discussion and suggestions from first hui around the prototype and use of a labour specific virtual reality environment.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed Bachelors/Masters qualification in a health-related discipline.
  • Interest and commitment to working in a culturally responsive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • High level of organisation and attention to detail regarding managing research activities.
  • Excellent computer skills in using Microsoft applications and other research software packages.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ideally previous experience in clinically related research.
