The Role/Te mahi

A Research Assistant is required to conduct systematic, worldwide, database searches to identify literature related to the impact of physical activity and/or inactivity on physical and mental health conditions, as well as interventions that have been implemented to combat the problem of physical inactivity in New Zealand and other parts of the world, such as Green Prescription.  Furthermore, to support the research team with compiling & disseminating an online survey, to transcribe recorded interviews and to assist with data analysis. Finally, to co-author publications of the findings as time allows.

The Research Assistant will undertake the following tasks:
•    Search publicly available online databases and identify relevant literature for inclusion.
•    Compile & disseminate an online survey on a platform such as Qualtrics.
•    Keep staff from Green Prescription Otago informed on the progress of the survey through frequent communication and discuss any relevant matters with them for the duration of the study.
•    Transcribe recorded research interviews.
•    Support the research team with data analysis where applicable with supervision.
•    Support the team with writing and editing manuscripts of the findings as per instruction, as well as supporting the team to prepare these for publication in accredited journals as time allows.

Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

•    Experience and training in systematic searches of online databases and bibliographies.
•    Very well- developed computer skills, with experience in data entry, online database searching, creating surveys on platforms such as Qualtrics or RedCap, word-processing and manipulation of Excel spreadsheets.
•    Ability to conduct research in the manner that is specified and able to enter data reliably.
•    Relevant tertiary education (e.g., Psychology undergrad or Post grad psychology papers).
•    Research skills and ability to think scientifically about the research and how it is being conducted (i.e., can contribute to the research team).
•    Good mathematical skills, as well as good communication and written skills.
•    Excellent attention to detail.

About us/Mō mātou

The Department of Psychological Medicine is focussed on several primary research areas, as well as being actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching to medical students, other undergraduates, psychiatric registrars and postgraduate students.
