Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Rainbow and Inclusion Adviser to join the Manawa Ora Student Wellbeing team on a full-time permanent contract. The role will be responsible for supporting LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui students’ during their time studying.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an annual plan that aligns with the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework
  • Collaboratively plan, promote, deliver and evaluate events that are engaging for students of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and sex characteristics, and build community both internally and externally
  • Provide strengths-based and holistic 1:1 support to students, including referrals to relevant student services and student representative groups
  • Oversee the operation of the student-led Rainbow Peer Group
  • Provide high level Rainbow student feedback to the Te Pūrengi Directorate, faculties, and schools to promote inclusive practices across the University
  • Contribute to aspects of the Pastoral Care Code related to the work of Manawa Ora and this role.

You will have experience in working with LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui communities and responding to their diverse needs with empathy and commitment to their wellbeing.

You will be highly organised and a clear communicator who is reliable, professional, and able to work autononmously in a sole role with the support of the immediate team and other equity focused teams. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build positive rapport and trust quickly with stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui community with a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Commitment to application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context
  • Experience and knowledge of working with LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui communities and referring appropriately for positive outcomes
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Proven experience in presenting/facilitating, event planning, promotion, delivery and engagement to build community.
