Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a full-time, permanent Professor or Associate Professor in Health Psychology to join Te Kura Tātai Hauora - School of Health.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic health psychology group with international research and teaching expertise within a world-leading university, and to:

  • Contribute to the School’s research, ideally complementing existing research concentrations.
  • Add to the School’s existing strengths in teaching with a focus on health psychology.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary School with a strong commitment to equity and diversity, and to bicultural practice in research and teaching consistent with the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Lead the development and delivery of Health Psychology undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Contribute to achieving equity through a commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying Mātauranga Māori in teaching and research.
  • Contribute to the university’s engagement with stakeholders, in respect of Health Psychology, especially with government agencies, non-governmental organisations and other partners relevant to our communities.

You will be a highly organised leader and relationship builder, who relishes working collaboratively in diverse high performing teams. You will be a supportive mentor who fosters an environment of collegiality and excellence in the health psychology team and beyond.

The preferred candidate will have (amongst other attributes contained in the relevant Role Description):

  • A completed PhD in a relevant field, or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the seniority of the role.
  • Knowledge of how the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi can be effectively upheld in academic and health settings.
  • Demonstrated evidence of academic leadership and experience in teaching and research (e.g., mentoring of colleagues, leading research groups, developing and leading innovative initiatives that encourage or enhance student learning, etc).
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the diversity of the student population by the use of different approaches to teaching methods and practice.
