Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Professional Teaching Fellow in Drawing to join the School of Design Innovation. The position calls for a strong design portfolio with solid experience in teaching and working with a diverse range of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academically rigorous teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Contributing to the review and enhancement of programmes and courses.
  • Develop relationships across the eight majors to establish interdisciplinarity and strategic use of drawing skills.
  • Contribute to the collegial development of the major, School and Faculty in service roles, specifically those that enhance the student experience.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You are passionate about teaching and learning and appreciate the importance of Ako to this environment as well as the Māori Strategic Outcomes Framework, Mai i te Iho ki te Pae. You will be familiar with contemporary discourse in the field of Design and possess a broad understanding of the value diversity brings to design. A specialisation and evidence of success in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • The foundational principles of design
  • Drawing
  • History of Design

A broad appreciation of the value of drawing as an interdisciplinarity design skill and how this can enhance and connect innovative and iterative processes is central to the role. Specific knowledge of drawing as a component of designs history is important. Your capacity to demonstrate a variety of drawing styles that includes traditional and orthographic styles is critical to the foundational understanding of how both space and form intersect and are communicated through art, design and science will have a positive impact on the recruitment, retention, and successes of our students.
