Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Professional Practice Lead. The role will be responsible for developing professional health psychology and training students to work as Psychologists in health fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play an active role in the development of professional practice within the new Postgraduate Diploma in Health Psychology Practice in Te Kura Tātai Hauora - the School of Health.
  • Work closely with the Academic Programme Lead to oversee internships and student intern training.
  • Liaise and coordinate with workplace supervisors and interns to ensure effective professional practice training to become a registered Psychologist (general scope).
  • Contribute to the development of the School’s wider academic and strategic direction and planning.
  • Contribute to achieving equity through a commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Contribute to the university’s engagement with stakeholders, particularly in respect of professional psychology and health psychology, including with government, district health boards, professional bodies and partners relevant to our capital city location.

Please note we are open to flexible working arrangements, such as reducing FTE or undertaking this position as a job share.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The preferred applicant will have experience working in professional practice settings as a registered psychologist, and academic teaching experience is desirable. They will have the ability to develop and lead a professional programme in psychology, focused on health psychology. They will be a collegial and collaborative team member who will contribute positively to the health psychology team, the broader multidisciplinary School of Health, and other professional psychology programmes in the University.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working as a registered Psychologist (clinical, counselling or general scope of practice).
  • Postgraduate qualification in an applied area of Psychology.
  • Supervision experience with trainee psychologists desirable.
  • Teaching experience desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.

The School of Health launched the Bachelor of Health in 2018, with major subjects in Health Psychology; Population Health, Policy and Service Delivery; Health Promotion; and Health Informatics. The Master of Health began in 2019 and in 2021 we launched the new Master of Health Psychology programme.
