As an organisation looking to drive innovation and growth to build economic value and contribute to beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand, we require a procurement expert to help us achieve our goal. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Procurement Manager will be expected to provide leadership in the procurement area for the organisation.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the procurement activities and associated requirements within Scion, offering expert advice and guidance to minimise risk and improve financial outcomes through proper procurement principles and practices.
  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process, ensuring relevant staff are competent in Scion's procurement process and policies, and continuous improvement opportunities are actioned.
  • Advance a collaborative and proactive relationship with government, managing proper implementation and reporting within expected procurement process including sustainability and broader outcome requirements.
  • Regulate the relationships with preferred suppliers, and oversee the identification of potential suppliers, collaborating with relevant Scion staff to ensure transparent supply chain management practices.

We seek a procurement expert who has:

  • Relevant experience of 5+ years working in organisational / government procurement environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of government procurement rules and requirements with the ability to lead an organisation in this area.
  • Strong ability to translate Government expectations into policy and procedure.
  • Customer service oriented with an ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Experience and ability to implement and manage software tools for procurement.
  • Regarded as a subject matter expert, with the ability to offer comprehensive and informed advice and guidance.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to translate customer needs and align to procurement requirements.
  • Procurement knowledge and experience to identify improvements to systems and processes.
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Strong ability to manage resources (people, funding, material, support) to get things done without supervision.
  • Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal.
  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently; arranges information and files in a useful manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and experience working with modern accounting systems.
  • Excellent time management abilities, using their time effectively and efficiently: the ability to prioritise appropriately; high productivity; can attend to a broader range of activities.
  • Adaptability, picks up on technical things quickly; can learn new skills and knowledge; is good at learning new industry, company, product or technical knowledge.
