The Strategic Procurement and Contracts (SPCO) is part of Massey University’s Finance & Procurement team reporting to the CFO. The team helps the University achieve its objectives and deliver best value in terms of performance, delivery of outcomes, reduced cost, and customer satisfaction.
The SPCO team is looking for a versatile candidate with diverse skills to support our dynamic group. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will be part of our Strategic Procurement and Contracts Office, with the option to work from our Palmerston North or Wellington locations.

As our Procurement & Contracts Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the contract management and procurement strategies at Massey University. Your responsibilities will include drafting, reviewing, and revising contracts, supporting contract risk mitigation, maintaining contract management data and systems, and managing supplier relationships.
In this role, you will work closely with procurement management to develop and distribute internal communications, increasing awareness of the capabilities and services offered by the Procurement and Contracts team. You will also be instrumental in introducing and implementing new contract management software to enhance operational efficiency.
Join a team dedicated to procuring goods and services through collaborative approaches, leveraging spend, and managing suppliers to optimise costs, improve supplier performance, and lower risk to the University. You will play a key role in the implementation and rollout of a new contract software module, ensuring its success and integration within the organisation.
The salary band for this position is $79,009 - $111,028 based on the preferred candidate's skills and experience.

- A degree in a relevant subject, or substantial contract management and procurement experience, of 6+ years is essential.
- A strong grasp of agile problem-solving skills. You can adapt quickly to changing environments and effectively manage multiple priorities to drive continuous improvement in our procurement and contracts processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively and maintain professional relationships with all team members.
- You will excel at building healthy relationships with stakeholders, ensuring adherence to our policies and rules while delivering mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Possess the ability to quickly assess contracts, identify potential financial and risk issues, and effectively communicate these insights to key stakeholders.
- You excel at reporting recommendations, writing high-quality papers, and delivering engaging presentations to effectively communicate insights and strategies.
- You are a team player who is ready to roll up their sleeves and contribute wherever needed to drive our projects to success."
- Ability to build meaningful working relationships both internally and externally is essential. You will enjoy building a good rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience of administering and managing contracts within a complex, multi-stakeholder operating environment while ensuring compliance with all contract rules and laws.
- Strong grasp of risk, legal and financial aspects of procurement and contracts, market and solutions development, strategic sourcing, sustainable sourcing and outcome-based contract negotiations and management.
- Experience in embedding sustainability and Te Tiriti considerations into contracting strategies is desirable.
