Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Victoria University of Wellington Autism Clinic, within the Faculty of Education. The clinic team has 12 members including therapists, PhD students, and interns.

The Research Fellow reports the Autism Clinic Lead (Hannah Waddington) and has the following key responsibilities:

Research expertise

  • Identify and synthesise relevant research.
  • Complete ethics applications.
  • Apply for grant funding.
  • Manage research assistants.
  • Design high-quality qualitative and quantitative research which is suited to the research question.
  • Analyse data.
  • Publish research in national and international, peer-reviewed journals.

Community engagement

  • Engaging with local iwi and Māori-focussed community groups to ensure that the research is culturally appropriate and important to Māori.
  • Working with Wellington-based early intervention organisations to ensure that research is relevant and meaningful in a New Zealand context.

Key Requirements:

  • PhD in Educational Psychology or related field.
  • Experience conducting research with children with autism and their whānau.
  • Experience working with Māori children and their whānau.
  • Understanding of the importance of Mātauranga Māori approaches to research.
  • Training in specific models of early intervention for children with autism, including the Early Start Denver model (desirable)
