Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join Computational Media Innovation Centre on a fixed-term contract. The role will be responsible for delivering high-quality research outcomes to the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research computational media to develop future digital media, services, and platforms; the areas of focus are (but not limited to) computer graphics, computer vision, and machine learning
  • Develop novel interfaces, user experiences, and interactive systems to solve research problems in computational media/service/platform, design, implement and evaluate the solution
  • Write research publications for submission to top-tiered journals and conferences
  • Lead and, where appropriate, mentor (in collaboration with CMIC staff) the research activities of honours, masters and PhD students
  • Engage with industry partners and external stakeholders as directed by senior CMIC staff

You will be highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff. The ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • PhD in computer science or related field
  • Strong background in computational media, computer graphics, computer vision, machine learning and/or the related areas
  • Demonstrated experience with successful development of novel research outcomes
  • Excellent software programming skills
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and present their own work and to work in an organised and structured manner
  • Ability to work with international and industry collaborators
  • Experience in writing scientific reports and papers
