Postdoctoral Fellow - Quantitative Ecologist

Seeking applications to join the Department of Pest Management & Conservation on a fixed-term, 16 month contract. 

Mō te tūnga | The role

Based in our weed research laboratory, this role will support wider research on plant invasions in the Department of Pest Management and Conservation.

As part of this role, you will actively engage in collaborative research through analysis of the reasons why certain ornamental plants have become invasive based on their frequency, pricing and traits as captured by nursery catalogues. Data have already been collected for multiple catalogues published between 1866 and 1992 and we require a quantitative ecologist to analyses these existing datasets. The position will advance research in the Marsden programme Nursery Crimes and more broadly in the field of biological invasions.

This role is full-time 16 month fixed term employment positions.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

Applicants will be required to have:

• A PhD in the natural sciences with interest in quantitative ecology, pest management or biological invasions
• A developing record of scholarly research and publication, preferably with publications in international journals in the field of quantitative ecology, plant or animal health
• Excellent skills in quantitative analysis and statistics
• Strong organisational skills relating to managing and manipulating large, complex datasets
