DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY About Us/Mō mātou The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. It is part of the University of Otago and located in Dunedin, a culturally vibrant and diverse university city. The Role/Te Mahi A postdoctoral position is available on a Genomics Aotearoa-funded project with Dr Nathan Kenny in the Department of Biochemistry. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with project members based at Wakatū Incorporation, Nelson. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work to establish new genomic and molecular tools for application in aquaculture. They will join a laboratory working on aspects of climatic adaptation, genomics and molecular evolution in a range of primarily invertebrate species. Skills and Experience Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako This project provides an exciting opportunity to generate new molecular tools for application in aquaculture, using cutting edge genomic techniques. The outcomes of this project will be used to inform future husbandry efforts and for hypothesis driven research. Applicants must have a PhD in a field such as genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular breeding or a similar discipline, and experience in techniques such as: • Genome assembly and annotation. Preference will be given to applicants with skills in bioinformatics and genomics. Candidates with demonstrated competency in collaborating with Māori organisations and those with whakapapa Māori are particularly encouraged to apply.
