Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Law with a PhD focussed on data barriers and data governance with a nexus in international economic law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research – develop scholarly record, in International Trade Law and closely related fields.
  • Contribute to the NZ Centre for International Economic Law, including development and dissemination of information about the Centre and research outcomes.
  • Teaching – develop a teaching profile, undertaking development, incorporating Māori and Pasifika perspectives, and engaging in teaching innovation.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship requires the successful applicant to speak more than one language.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will be a motivated recent PhD graduate from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington with a degree that focussed on a field relevant to international trade and the function of data barriers/governance. You will speak at least two languages as required by the funder.

You will be a highly organised self-starter who relishes a career in legal academia. It is desirable that you have experience in developing research material to a publishable standard with potential to attract funding for research projects. You will have good communication skills and the proven ability to work well in a team.

Key Requirements:

  • Completed PhD in field relevant to international trade and the function of data barriers/governance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analysis of data barriers in international economic law.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analysis and evaluation of data-localisation and other trade barriers imposed in countries outside New Zealand, particularly in either or both Russia and China.
  • Speaks more than one language (requirement by research funder).
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
