The School of Art and Design is looking to appoint a full-time* postdoctoral fellow for two years to work on a project to develop a virtual reality application for chronic pain management. The purpose of the position is to grow the research capabilities of the School, further develop the research culture of the School, and offer the opportunity for an early career researcher to work in an interdisciplinary environment alongside leading academics in the School of Art and Design, School of Future Environments and School of Clinical Sciences. Ideally, applicants for the role will meet the following selection requirements:

Selection Requirements

  • Research activity of the postdoc as judged by the PBRF criteria.
  • PhD with a track record of publications (applicants should be within five years of completing their doctoral degree)
  • Proven, or demonstrated excellent potential for, an outstanding publication record.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing virtual reality applications, ideally for standalone devices such as the Meta Quest.
  • Experience developing applications using Unity 3D game engine.
  • Experience in working with end-users is also relevant.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a project and/or supervise junior team members/students.
  • Demonstrated high-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver high-quality project outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Understanding of equity and diversity principles.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

The successful applicant will be appointed a supervisor from within the School of Art and Design and be expected to maintain a high-quality program of research during the fellowship period. The position will also be supported by an established team of collaborators from AUT's School of Clinical Sciences. Annual reports will be required to demonstrate their contribution and outputs achieved.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Two-year fixed-term appointment.
  • Starting date: 1st July 2024.

Salary Range: $77,000 - $108,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
