DODD-WALLS CENTRE FOR PHOTONIC AND QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

Our Department

The Department of Physics at the University of Otago is New Zealand’s top ranked Physics Department, and is located in the centre of the scenic Otago province. Our department has a vibrant research environment with strength in both theoretical and experimental AMO as well as linear-, nonlinear and quantum optics research.

The Resonant Optics group is part of the Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, a national Center of Research Excellence.

The Role

In this position, you will join the Resonant Optics Group in a project that aims to connect superconducting quantum circuit to the telecommunication domain. You will use the resonant enhancement of a high quality monolithic resonator to enhance the nonlinear interaction in order convert microwave photons into optical photons. The setup will be within a helium-3 dilution fridge and in the future be coupled to superconducting qubits.

Your Skills and Experience

You should have a PhD in Physics, and a demonstrated strength in one or more of the following areas within experimental physics:

• superconducting microwave qubits;

• optical resonators;

• non-linear optics in second order nonlinearities; or

• quantum optics.
