Position Overview

The Postdoctoral Scientist position is in the Riddet Institute at Massey University but will be based largely at the Fonterra Research and Development Centre in Palmerston North. The project will contribute to Fonterra’s Complementary Nutrition Programme and is funded by Fonterra Ltd.

The work will be centred on undertaking research on the physico-chemical properties of new food ingredients including proteins and fats/oils produced from plants and via technologies such as precision fermentation, mammalian cell cultures and microbial farming (or plant engineering). The project is focused on developing an understanding of the full potential for these ingredients and technologies to be used in dairy food systems.

The Riddet Institute is a world-best New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders.  The Institute integrates disciplines, leading a “NZ Inc” approach to food and related discipline research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.

We are seeking an outstanding researcher for this exciting position who has completed a PhD and will have a strong commitment to develop in this research program. Skills related to effective communication and problem solving as well as the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams are required.

The salary will depend on experience but will be in the range of Postdoctoral Fellow, with appointment for an initial term of two years.
