Postdoctoral Fellow - Biochemistry-2201208
SCHOOL OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES About us/Mō mātou The Biochemistry Department is a large research and teaching department housed in a well-equipped building. The department is highly research-intensive, with researchers working across diverse interests in biochemistry, genetics, and bioinformatics. We are part of the University of Otago and located in Dunedin, a culturally vibrant and diverse university city. The role/Te mahi We seek an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a project funded by a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Smart Ideas grant. This project seeks to understand the genetic regulation of ryegrass (Lolium perenne) flowering. Ryegrass flowering (or heading) leads to a drastic loss of metabolizable energy, resulting in reduced animal production. Our goal is to provide the knowledge and molecular tools needed to breed ryegrass cultivars that do not head in New Zealand field conditions but can be induced to head for commercial seed production. Key tasks of this role include designing and performing experiments, presenting research data, liaising with collaborators and assisting with grant applications and manuscript preparation, as appropriate.
