Position Overview

The Massey AgriFood (MAF) Digital Lab is a research centre within the College of Sciences that is highly focussed on commercially applied solutions across the AgriFood and wider biological industries. MAF Digital Lab provides capability for the application of data processing, analytics, modelling, simulation, advanced materials, robotics and sensor platforms to solve multi-parameter complex problems within industrial relevant systems.

We now invite applications for a PostDoctoral Researcher to join us in a fixed term (12m) to provide maternity cover for an existing research officer and ensure the successful completion of commercially-funded postharvest projects.  This position is primarily required to execute projects for Zespri International, followed by contributions to supervision of postgraduate students, teaching of undergraduate students and publication of research papers. 

Key responsibilities of this role will be; 

  • Execute and Management of Research Projects to Completion
  • Assist in delivery of project outcomes by being available for relevant field work and providing assistance where required.
  • Use a range of laboratory equipment and be able to collect robust and reliable data
  • Use a high level of organisational and analytical skills to collate, analyse, summarise and present data. 
  • Assist in delivery of project outcomes by being available for relevant field work and providing assistance where required.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with the research team in order to develop and contribute to new project proposals in both existing and new research areas.
  • Share responsibility with technical staff for training on, and preventative maintenance of, laboratory equipment, in the Postharvest Laboratory and associated coolrooms.
To be successful in appointment you will have;
  • A PhD (or near completion of) in postharvest science, technology or engineering, with a track record in research delivery for industry clients. 
  • Sound technical knowledge on postharvest biology of fresh products (primarily fruit and vegetables) 
  • Good understanding of the needs of domestic and export- orientated fresh produce industries 
  • Established track record of scholarly publication in respected international peer reviewed journals 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with external clients. 
  • A high level of skill and experience using statistical analysis, and data presentation products.
