PĀPĀHO, WHITIĀHUA, PĀROKOROKO/MEDIA FILM AND COMMUNICATION PROGRAMME We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in Communication Studies to join Pāpāho, Whitiāhua, Pārokoroko (The Media, Film and Communication programme) at the University of Otago, in Te Wai Pounamu, the stunning South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. As the first Communications Major in New Zealand we focus on students’ critical engagement with Communications theory and Communications contexts, Film, Television, Visual Culture and New Media. Our papers contribute to the academic degrees of BA, BASc, BA(Hons), Dip Grad, MA and PhD. We have an international reputation as a centre for scholarly excellence and provide an intellectual community with a research culture that is vibrant, welcoming and supportive. We have regularly held national and international conferences and have hosted distinguished scholars from around the world. As a programme we bring Māori culture into an intersectional dialogue with broader issues of representation, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political agency through the study of Media, Film and Communication. The role We invite applications for a full-time, permanent (confirmation path) Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in Communication Studies. The successful candidate for this role will contribute to critical cultural and communication research and teaching. The appointee will also teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as Communication theory, Intercultural communication, Environmental communication, and Communication and the city, and foster postgraduate research at Honours, Masters and PhD levels. Your skills and experience The successful candidate is expected to have, or to be working toward, a PhD with an established research focus in critical communication and cultural studies, and to be able to demonstrate a record of high-quality research and teaching. The ability to apply te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to communication research and teaching will be an advantage.
