Kōrero mōtetūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pūkenga/Lecturer (Teaching) in Forensic Psychology for a three-year, fixed-term position.
The University has an excellent research culture and Te Kura Mātai Hinengaro, School of Psychology , is recognised as being within the top echelon of psychology departments in New Zealand. The Forensic psychology team has an active research culture with a substantial number of postgraduate students and access to extensive networks in the community and research collaborations across Victoria, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the world.
Te Kura Mātai Hinengaro hosts research laboratories in many of psychology's specialty areas: cognition, learning, social, cross-cultural, developmental, biological, clinical, and forensic psychology. Importantly, the School of Psychology has a strong commitment to equity and diversity, and specifically to bicultural practice in research and teaching consistent with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Both staff and students at Te Kura Mātai Hinengaro are enthusiastic about building and further developing our new Bachelor of Psychology, which includes a major in Criminal Justice Psychology. Moreover, the School is home to the only MSc programme in Forensic Psychology in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The successful applicant will be an expert on forensic psychology in an area such as, but not limited to, clinical forensic psychology, forensic mental health and intellectual disabilities in a forensic context, investigative psychology, eyewitness testimony, offender rehabilitation, and human aggression.

Key requirements:
Essential:
- A PhD in psychology
- Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in Forensic psychology at University-level teaching and learning in the discipline of Forensic Psychology, with demonstrated quality in the delivery of teaching programmes, and evidence of commitment to the use of different pedagogies and technologies to enhance teaching and research
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills and a proven capacity to develop strong relationships with University colleagues, relate to people from a variety of backgrounds and work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusivity, and diversity
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in Learning and Teaching or completion of accredited professional development programme in Higher Education e.g., TeArawaiAko fellowship
- Evidence of successful course development and evidence of developing course materials, including online resources
- Evidence of effective postgraduate student supervision
