Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pūkenga - Lecturer in International Relations join the Political Science & International Relations programme on a permanent, full-time basis. The starting date is 24 February 2025.
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to teaching courses at all levels in International Relations, as appropriate and agreed to with the Tumuaki - Head of School.
- Advance a sustained and disciplinary-relevant research programme.
- Successfully supervise post-graduate students to completion.
- Contribute to Hautūtanga/leadership, administrative roles, and outreach to the wider community.
- Prepare and deliver graduate and undergraduate courses in International Relations.
- Commence other teaching or administrative duties.

This is an ideal opportunity for an entry-level academic who wishes to pursue a career as a researcher and educator.
Key requirements:
- Research interest or experience in Japan/Northeast Asia and the United States.
- A developing record of scholarly research and publication and/or creative work, and a research agenda.
- Demonstrated evidence of some successful teaching in a relevant field at tertiary level.
- A completed PhD in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with Māori concepts, values, ideas and practices, and an interest in growing mātauranga Māori for teaching and research programmes.

The programme is large, diverse, as well as thriving and supports high-quality research. It teaches students from first-year to PhD level and offers opportunities to teach across a large variety of topics, with interdisciplinary teaching especially encouraged.
