Operations Lead - Scion

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials and other biomaterials. Specialists in propagation and forest management, we lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based circular bioeconomy.

The Operations Lead provides leadership in the provision of operational support for the safety and maintenance of Scion buildings and property and ensure compliance with regulations across our 100 building / 114-hectare site. Reporting to the Head of Campus and Facilities, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, analysis and delivery of building projects to enable Scion to deliver on its business and science objectives and outcomes.

Key accountabilities:

  • Manage the repair and maintenance of all facilities infrastructure assets to ensure safe and healthy workspaces.
  • Manage all compliance testing and requirements for the issue of the annual building Warrant of Fitness for the Rotorua campus.
  • Manage contractor relationships and ensure good communication during site works with affected staff.
  • Manage facilities and contractor effective use of safety systems.
  • Manage the security of buildings and Scion property to ensure continuous operations.
  • Lead project management of facilities infrastructure improvements and upgrades.
  • Lead and coach the operations team to enable them to provide expert knowledge and skills to the business to meet Scion's objectives.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following skills, attributes and experience: 

  • A recognised trade qualification in building, electrical, technical trades, or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in an industrial trade work environment with specific expertise in either technical, building or electrical trade.
  • Experience working with supporting infrastructure maintenance.
  • At least 3 years' experience in supervisory or management role or project-based worksite.
  • Excellent record keeping and proficiency in computer use and smart systems.
  • Strong organisational skills, can-do attitude and proactive approach, with focus on problem ownership and resolution.
  • Proven communication and collaboration skills leading to effective relationships with customers, contractors and service providers.
