We are looking for a molecular biology research technician at our Lincoln site.

About the opportunity

The purpose of this role is to provide technical assistance to both MBIE-funded and commercial projects in support of Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research's core purpose of driving innovation in the management of terrestrial biodiversity and land resources, and to support laboratory management for the PC2 molecular laboratory in Lincoln.

This role sits within our Biocontrol and Molecular Ecology Team and includes developing and performing a range of molecular biology techniques, as well as DNA and NGS data analyses. This role also includes assisting EcoGene® with various DNA-based services and assisting with the general laboratory management.

This position is permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week), reports to Claudia Lange (Molecular Ecology Capability Leader) and is based at our Lincoln site in Canterbury.

The starting remuneration would be between $66,806 and $73,007 per annum, depending on skills and relevant experience.

About you

You will possess a postgraduate qualification in Biological Sciences; or bachelor's degree with at least 2 years laboratory experience. You will be proficient in developing and performing a range of molecular biology techniques, such as DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and next generation sequencing applications. You will have competent computer skills and be familiar with DNA and NGS data analysis software, including high-performance computing cluster (NeSI), R and shell scripting. Experience working in a research environment will be essential, and a good understanding of laboratory management and maintenance of a PC2 facility will be required.

You will be highly organised, exhibiting attention to detail, have excellent record keeping skills and work well both independently and as part of a team.
