An opportunity has arisen for a Molecular PathologyTechnician to join our Pathogen Ecology and Control team based in Rotorua. The successful candidate will be responsible assist with molecular research projects and diagnostics for forest pathogens and (or) other relevant pathogens with focus on pathology research projects. You will undertake research and diagnostics in the laboratory field and nursery to meet project delivery outcomes that are making a real impact for Forestry within New Zealand.      

You will need:

  • MSc or BSc with relevant laboratory experience in related fields
  • Microbiological skills, including routine growth and maintenance of cultures and aseptic technique are essential.
  • Competency in the purification and quantification of nucleic acids is essential.
  • Experience with PCR, real-time PCR and DNA sequencing (including qPCR data analysis and DNA sequence analysis) is essential.
  • Proven experience in the application and troubleshooting of molecular biology methods and techniques is essential.
  • Experience handling environmental samples, including soil and plant samples, would be an advantage.
  • Be able to work independently to a high standard when implementing research tasks, accurately record data, and communicate this back to researchers.
