We have a 1 year fixed term contract available in our team for an applicant with strong industry knowledge and experience. You will assist the researchers from the Applied Molecular Solutions (AMS) group to conduct their research in entomology, multitrophic interactions and fungal biodiversity and ecology. support their efforts in species identification using a range of molecular techniques, but essentially DNA extractions, PCR and the preparation of the samples for standard and next-generation DNA sequencing. The research associate will also participate in the sampling effort, and may casually assist with non-molecular laboratory techniques (buffer preparation, plating, staining and microscopy etc.) and field experiments as required.


• Experience in sample collection, DNA extraction and purification, PCR and Gel electrophoresis
• Making up buffers and other solutions
• A relevant science qualification (e.g. Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science)
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Experience in sample preparation for next generation sequencing
• A current full drivers licence and the ability to use your own vehicle for this position (a mileage allowance will be paid)
• Experience in microbiological techniques
