Molecular/Biochemistry Scientist Research Assistant - SCION

Full time position - 40 hours

Based in Rotorua

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts, and energy, and the establishment of a broader based bioeconomy. We are a Crown Research Institute dedicated to forestry and is home to more than 300 science and support staff on its two main campuses in Rotorua and Christchurch. An exciting opportunity exists at Scion for an early career scientist/technician with skills in molecular biology/biochemistry to join our multi-disciplined Forest Genetics and Biotechnology Group. This position will support scientific research applied to the development of microbial processes and fermentation to produce novel bio-based biopolymers, biochemicals and enzymes. We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative scientist, a self-starter with a 'can do' attitude and the ability to work collaboratively on new and exciting Biotechnology projects across Scion.

What are we looking for?

You will have experience in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Industrial Biotechnology or similar.  Candidates who have recently completed postgraduate studies at master's level or are an experienced graduate (5+ years of industry experience) looking to progress your career should apply. 

You will come to us with good laboratory research experience with strong experimental design, technical competence, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, you will have great communication and organization skills. You will enjoy working in team environment as well as being able to apply innovation solutions to peers and projects where required. Those with hands-on experience in applied microbiology, molecular biology and biochemical techniques are encouraged to apply.
