Mental Health - Kaitiaki Practitioner x2 Vacancies
The Mental Health – Kaitiaki Practitioner role is a member of the Student Services Team. We are recruiting for two fixed term roles to commence in January 2023 to December 2023, one position will be based in Rotorua at our Mokoia campus and the other role will be based in Tauranga at our Windermere campus.
These role’s aim to improve ākonga wellbeing and mental health resulting in improved engagement, outcomes and retention. Ideally applicants would have a background in Social Work &/or Clinical Mental Health Nurse.
The clinical role will focus on delivering brief psychological interventions and assessing and supporting students with mental health challenges. In addition, the role will deliver contextualised self-help workshops. The aim is support ākonga to build independence and resilience in managing their own mental wellness in ways which maintain their integrity, independence and mana.
More specifically the Mental Health - Kaitiaki Practitioner will:
• Deliver a culturally appropriate service to ākonga that supports their mental health and wellbeing independence to improve their wellbeing and achievement;
• Identify and work with at risk ākonga, providing consultation, education and advice to improve outcomes and retention;
• Develop and maintain meaningful therapeutic relationships with ākonga;
• Facilitate contextualised mental health workshops, providing helpful and useful tools to support the mental health and wellbeing of ākonga
• Develop external and community partnerships with relevant services and utilise resources to provide a range of mental health support options for ākonga
• Support wider ākonga support services wellbeing focused activities
The skills, experience and qualifications required for this role include:
· Fully registered New Zealand mental health professional (e.g., Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, DAPAANZ or NZAC Counsellor)
· Current practicing certificate
· Current full driver’s licence
· Recent mental health and addiction clinical knowledge and experience
· Knowledge of mental health practices in Aotearoa
· Proven record of working with mental wellbeing and awareness
· Substantive understanding of Te Ao Māori and wellness
· Understanding of various Pacific Island approaches to mental health and wellbeing
· Sound knowledge of appropriate professional ethics and boundaries;
· Substantive experience in development, facilitation and implementation of workshops and other delivery initiatives;
· Knowledge of, and networks with, other wellbeing service providers;
· Substantive experience of working within communities and with a variety of agencies.
· Effective needs assessment skills;
· Effective interpersonal relationships and exceptional communication skills;
· Working with individuals and groups to promote positive change;
· Well-developed facilitation skills;
Normal hours of work for this role will be 8 hours per day between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm depending on the Institute’s requirements, some flexibility is required. This role may also require some weekend work and work at different locations as required.
