Position Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive Mechanical Fitter to join our Estates Management – Wellington Facilities team.  

The work will involve inspections, repairs, maintenance, overhauls and installations of university mechanical services and equipment repair or replace components. Collection and input of data into our Work Order system attending to inspections in support of planned preventative maintenance with the Facilities Services Team. 

Plumbing and drainage work at a basic level is a significant component of this role.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Problem solving to root cause with corrective and preventative resolutions using recognised engineering techniques.
  • Conduct and assist with use, data input and modifications to the building maintenance system and be able to utilise available software to assist with fault-finding.

Inspection, repair, maintain and overhaul:
  • Building, HVAC, plant and equipment within the organisations facilities.  Such equipment can include PLC & Microprocessor based building control systems, motors/pumps, boiler systems, door access and barrier arm equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, heating or cooling control, plumbing and drainage systems and such other equipment that Facilities Services is responsible for.
  • Ability to fabricate replacement parts;
  • Experience rebuilding pumps and motors;
  • Fabrication and repair welding experience is desirable.

You’ll need:

  • NZQA and /or advanced Trade Cert in Mechanical Engineering or similar related field with NZQA
  • A minimum 5 years work experience in Mechanical Facilities maintenance.
  • Extensive experience working in a team conducting Planned, Preventative and Predictive Maintenance activities.
  • Sound experience and knowledge of control systems and programs relating to Building Management and Access Control Systems and Asset Management Software systems.
  • Maintenance experience at an education, hospital or University, or similar organisation is highly desirable.

This role will require you to be available out of normal working hours to suit the operational needs of the University, this is catered for by the use on an on-call roster.
