The opportunity / Te Whiwhinga mahi

Based in Nelson, our Mechanical Engineering team delivers a variety of programmes to school students exploring vocational career options, full time students preparing to enter the trade, and apprentices working in industry.

The primary focus of this fixed term, 12 month, full time role is to work with the team to deliver within our Pre Trade and Trades Academy programmes. The role involves tutoring students, reviewing and updating resources and classroom materials, setting and marking assessments and results entry. You will also be responsible for assisting with recruitment and care of students as well as participating in the team and wider institute environment.

This role offers opportunity to work with students, schools, employers, and community groups within the Top of the South. To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Recent practical engineering industry experience, with 10 years' experience an advantage
  • Teaching experience is advantageous, but not essential as support will be given
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Confident user of computer systems
  • A genuine desire to educate and mentor students
