Te āheinga: The opportunity 

Our School of Environmental and Animal Sciences delivers teaching, applied research, and industry engagement across certificate to degree programmes, supported by veterinary, animal care, and laboratory facilities.

This permanent role is critical to the success of the Veterinary Nursing programme and includes:

• Coordinating our Diploma in Veterinary Nursing clinical placements
• Supporting student success through excellent pastoral care
• Building and sustaining relationships with veterinary industry partners
• Ensuring student centred programme delivery and high-quality learner outcomes

The role provides essential support to meet clinical, animal care, and programme requirements across the Veterinary Nursing area.

He kōrero mōu: About you 

As a Lecturer (Veterinary Nursing), you will be responsible for coordinating and supporting students during their New Zealand Diploma in Veterinary Nursing practicums. You will provide high-quality pastoral care for our students to help them succeed in their clinical placements and contribute to student success across the School of Environmental and Animal Sciences.

We are seeking an educator who is committed to excellence and providing a high-quality experience for our students within their placements, building and maintaining relationships within the veterinary industry and contributing to the success of our programme delivery.

Necessary skills and experience:

• Demonstrates a compassionate, non-judgemental approach and commitment to supporting a diverse student body and inclusive learning environment.
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work accurately, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally, concisely and respectfully with students, staff, veterinary clinics, and industry partners.
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries while providing consistent student support and guidance.
• Calm, resilient, and solution-focused, with the ability to work independently and follow tasks through to completion.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within diverse teams while building positive stakeholder relationships.
• Detail-oriented, with a commitment to Health and Safety, compliance, and the accurate management of student records, placement requirements, and documentation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn new databases and academic management systems.
• Understands that this is primarily a coordination and student support role, focused on administration, organisation, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, with minimal classroom teaching.
• An understanding or desire to learn te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and the values and practices of kaupapa Māori
• Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces/environments
• A current full New Zealand Driver Licence.

Qualifications and Experience

• A qualification in veterinary nursing or a related discipline is preferred but not essential.
