Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Plant Pathology

Teach, research and supervision roles in the field of plant pathology at our Lincoln Campus.

Mō te tūka | The role

Based in the Department of Pest Management and Conservation, we are seeking applications for an energetic leader, to nurture and develop our students and research programmes in the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

You will be working alongside internationally renowned academics carrying out research while providing a first-rate student experience in teaching specialist subjects in plant pathology and plant disease management.

The Department of Pest-Management and Conservation focusses on land-based applied ecology and plant pathology, in all of its forms. We use molecular, behavioural and community approaches and tools to work on ecosystem ecology, conservation and plant pathology. Key themes explored by the department include: animal behaviour, bioprotection, conservation and biodiversity, ecological restoration, evolutionary biology, fire ecology, molecular ecology, plant microbiology, plant pathology, remediation of degraded and contaminated land, soil ecology, sustainable agriculture and ecosystem services, wildlife and pest management.

This is a permanent role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln Campus.

Approximate remuneration for this position is as follows:

  • Lecturer: Grade A6, $84,340 - $91,503
  • Senior Lecturer: Grade A7, $97,113 - $124,242

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in this role you will need some or all of:

  • PhD degree in Plant Pathology or a closely related discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of the philosophical, methodological and practical aspects of research in Plant Pathology
  • A successful track record of having established a research portfolio and consulted in the area of Plant Pathology
  • Experience in teaching in the area of Plant Pathology
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Evidence of successfully attracting competitive internal and/or national level funding for research activities
  • Commitment to the academic discipline and to service to the University, the wider community and, where appropriate, the profession.
