We are proud of the history of our Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) as a strong field-based degree, where students spend 12 hours a week in an early childhood centre. Our graduates are well equipped for the future needs of employers, through the mix of field-based and on campus learning
You will join a dynamic whānau committed to student success and to creating an exceptional learning environment. This role is centred on teaching and supporting our ākonga while they are on their study journey with us in early childhood education. We are proud of our student success rates of above 90% and of our exceptionally high graduate employment.
Core responsibilities of this role are to:
- Lead the implementation of our Early Childhood Education Rautaki te reo Māori strategy
- Lead mātauranga Māori throughout the programme
- Teach across our early childhood degree courses
- Provide leadership in developing an understanding of Māori values and tikanga within our Kete courses to support the success of tauira Māori and all students.

He kōrero mōu
- Have a sound understanding in respect to ako practices which lead to improved educational outcomes, alongside an understanding of the importance of these practices within the Early Childhood Curriculum: Te Whariki
- Be an experienced teacher, passionate about ako and the important place it holds in our education system. It is an advantage if you also have tertiary teaching and research experience.
- Have an understanding and capability of te reo me ngā tikanga, and being able to share the beauty of Te Ao Māori is important to be able to lead and grow such ako for our students. Fluency in te reo Māori would be an advantage.
- Have strong relationship building skills; effective at communicating with a range of different groups and individuals, and an understanding of how to teach in a range of settings.
A post-graduate qualification or working towards one is advantageous.
