Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Hydrology

The Waterways Centre for Freshwater Management is inviting applications for a new Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Hydrology.  This is a continuing position and the level of appointment will depend on the successful candidate's relevant experience.

The Opportunity: We seek an ambitious and collaborative colleague who will complement and strengthen our existing capability in hydrology, specifically extending our capacity in one or more of the following areas: physical hydrology; hydrological and hydrodynamic modelling; environmental monitoring; and geospatial analysis.           

The successful candidate will be expected to build a programme of innovative research.  You will seek to establish external funding to support your research and where possible, develop your work collaboratively with both private and public-sector stakeholders.  We are particularly looking for candidates capable of working across an interdisciplinary agenda and who bring expertize in areas such as data science, sensor networks, Earth observation and numerical modelling that complement our existing strengths in groundwater hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, water governance, freshwater ecology and river restoration.  

Applicants must also demonstrate their commitment and ability to deliver innovative and excellent teaching and learning.  The role will support the development and delivery of our flagship graduate programmes in Water Resource Management as well as supporting undergraduate teaching and will include the delivery of lectures, laboratory classes, seminars, field teaching as well as postgraduate supervision.   

About You: Applicants should have a PhD or an appropriate equivalent qualification in the field of hydrology/water science.  You will be able to demonstrate potential for academic excellence in teaching and research.  You will have a developing track record of internationally excellent publications and evidence of an ability to attract external research funding.  You will be able, or have the potential, to conduct innovative and effective lectures and field classes and provide supervise graduate students.

About Us:  The Waterways Centre for Freshwater Management is a leading centre for research and teaching in watershed science and the management of water resources.  It is a partnership between Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury that seeks to advance fundamental understanding of our freshwater environments as integrated physical, social and cultural systems.  Operating from a base at the University of Canterbury, we offer first class research and teaching facilities that support an active community of researchers engaged in fundamental and applied research spanning the physical and social dimensions of freshwater.  The Centre is committed to the delivery of high impact research that aims to support transformative change in the management of freshwater systems.  We have a vibrant graduate school working towards both doctoral and masters programmes and we deliver an integrated Masters of Water Resources Management that aims to train the next generation of researchers and practitioners.  We work collaboratively across both Universities to synergize our research expertize and deliver a wide portfolio of teaching.  You will actively encouraged to forge new collaborations across both Lincoln and Canterbury universities.
