Position Overview

Are you a senior clinical psychologist who is a scientist-practitioner who can contribute to, and benefit from, the strong research culture in our School?

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from experienced Clinical Psychologists with expertise in Neuropsychology and Clinical Gero-psychology, however candidates with other areas of expertise are also encouraged to submit an application. The position is based on our Wellington campus.

A programme of independent research is of critical importance for this position, and collaboration with other staff in the School is strongly encouraged. Experienced researchers are expected to have a developed platform of research and evidence of successful completion of research supervision at masters and doctoral levels, with a record of externally funded, overhead-attracting research highly desirable. New researchers will be expected to develop their research platform and experience with supervision and external funding bids.

Clinical psychology training is composed of theoretical, research, and clinical practicum components supported by clinical staff in concert with academic staff. Therefore, it is an essential requirement that you are registered as a Psychologist with the Psychologists Board, under the Clinical scope of practice (or have proven eligibility for such registration if the applicant is from overseas; registered Psychologists in Australia and the United Kingdom are eligible to practice in Aotearoa).

Application requirements:

  • PhD or DClinPsych
  • Registration with the Psychologists Board
  • A record of past research productivity
  • Experience in teaching and supervision
  • Consultant-level clinical practice experience, and leadership experience

Staff are required to teach for short periods on any campus of the University.

The School has a commitment to indigenous psychologies and we would be particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who support that commitment. Information about the School of Psychology and the University can be accessed here .

As part of Massey University’s commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, the School of Psychology incorporates a bicultural focus into its programmes. Knowledge of and experience with Māori culture and its implications for clinical practice would be valued in this position and we especially welcome applications from Māori Clinical psychologists.

The appointment will be on the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer scale according to qualifications and experience. An exceptional candidate may be considered for appointment at Associate Professor.

Enquiries of an academic nature should be directed to Associate Professor Joanne Taylor ([email protected] ) or Dr Simon Bennett ([email protected] ).
