Āu Mahi | What You Will Do


Applications are invited for the continuing position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biological Sciences (Animal Physiology) in the School of Biological Sciences. [Lecturer is broadly equivalent to an Assistant Professor in the US system; Senior Lecturer is broadly equivalent to a recently tenured Associate Professor in the US system].
We seek an ambitious colleague who will augment our existing strengths in animal physiology research, teaching, and outreach. The successful applicant will demonstrate cutting-edge research and teaching in, and have advanced understanding of, animal physiology at any appropriate scale of biological organization, but with whole organisms as a focus. Applicants must have a strong laboratory and/or field component to their research, and address basic and/or applied questions. We expect candidates to use a range of approaches (which may include, for example, molecular, chemical, genetic, genomic, electrophysiological, ecological, evolutionary, statistical and/or computational methods). The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research programme, for which there are a variety of basic and applied contexts in Aotearoa New Zealand. They will also develop research linkages with research institutes, industry, or charitable/community groups. The University and School have a strong interest and strategic investment in environmental science, and we are especially motivated to receive applications from candidates who will be a key part of our research, teaching and community engagement in this field.

 

Mōu | Who You Are

Applicants should have a PhD or an appropriate equivalent qualification in biological sciences, an ability and willingness to deliver high quality teaching in animal physiology at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, and a commitment to do world-class research in an area complementary to current strengths within Te Kura Pūtaiao Koiora | School of Biological Sciences.

You will demonstrate the potential for academic excellence in teaching and research, be able to conduct innovative and effective lectures and laboratory/field classes from first year through postgraduate level, publish research at a high level as assessed by peer-reviewed publications, and, where appropriate, demonstrate impacts for community stakeholders. We are looking for an adaptable and collaborative colleague who can work with others to embrace opportunities that contribute to our mission.

Te Kura Pūtaiao Koiora | The School of Biological Sciences has a strong national and international profile and has an excellent teaching and research infrastructure. We have well-established research programmes from molecular to whole-organism and ecological scales, as exemplified in the Biomolecular Interaction Centre and the Centre for Integrated Research in Biosafety . We have strong linkages with other research institutes, and centres of research excellence, including Te Pūnaha Matatini and Bioprotection Aotearoa.

The salary for this position on the Academic grade scale is Lecturer $86,197 - $104,487 p.a. or Senior Lecturer $109,977 - $124,732 p.a.
