The Auckland University of Technology Business School (part of the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law) is a leading provider of innovative undergraduate and postgraduate business education, with strong links to business, employers, and professional bodies. Accredited by AACSB and EQUIS, it is ranked in the world's top 350 for Business and Management Studies (QS Rankings 2023).

The Role

We have a one-year fixed-term teaching role for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Accounting from late January 2024 to teach across at least two of the following areas: financial accounting, management accounting, finance for accountants, auditing, accounting information systems, and/or taxation. The role will be part of our Department of Accounting which comprises 18 academics.

This is an opportunity for a new or near-to-completion Ph.D. graduate or otherwise someone with relevant industry experience at a senior level and of at least two years' duration, within the last five years (where that experience is not within the last five years, there must be evidence that professional currency has been maintained in the intervening period). The industry experience requirement is waived for recent Ph.D. graduates.

You'll teach across programmes as agreed with the Head of the Department. We embrace innovative practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student experience is optimised and technology-engaged.

We welcome applications from candidates with evidence of relevant experience in tertiary-level teaching. You will be committed to ensuring course learning objectives are achieved. You will also need to take an active role in the development and enhancement of the courses you teach. It is expected that you will engage with business, the professions, and the community to enhance the learning experience you offer our students. You will also be expected to contribute to Departmental/Faculty/University activities.

Key Requirements for the Role

  • A PhD in accounting or a near to completed PhD
  • Previous tertiary-level teaching experience in accounting
  • Knowledge and experience with teaching and learning technologies (e.g. Canvas)
  • A flexible, collaborative, open, and engaging attitude able to adapt to departmental teaching requirements

Start Date: Ideally the successful candidate will start early February 2024.
