Te Ara Poutama, the Faculty of Māori & Indigenous Development is seeking to appoint a lecturer to teach across the  Māori Media and Māori development programmes. Te Ara Poutama is more than a learning space, it's a supportive and culturally safe learning community that fosters collaboration and values creativity. The Faculty offers the latest facilities to develop high-quality audio-visual apps produce top notch film footage and sound recordings using the latest recording hardware and software. Māori media, Māori development and te reo qualifications are at the cutting edge and have been developed in response to the need for skilled Māori professionals in across a wide range of sectors. 

The successful candidate will support and extend the continued development of teaching, postgraduate supervision and research. However, the primary role is teaching Māori Media in the undergraduate programme. This requires an ability to apply a Māori world view to media studies, communication and presentation systems, media and screen production, and multimedia. New Zealand's media landscape has shifted significantly since the launch of Māori Television. The successful candidate will be responsible for nurturing students to access opportunities working in Māori media and telling the Māori story through the media.

 Do you have:

  • A PhD
  • Knowedge of Māori language and culture.
  • Evidence of presentation at conferences, seminars or workshops with external reach/impact.
  • Proven teaching experience at university level in Māori Media and Māori development.
  • Experience teaching at postgraduate programmes is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to inspire students and to enhance the learning experience.
  • Creative pproach to learning and teaching.
  • Team player with the abuility to work collaboratively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including communication (written and verbal), presentation and team working skills.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, reliability and ability to meet deadlines.
