Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We invite applications for a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor | Pūkenga, Pūkenga Matua, Ahorangi Tuarua position in Criminology/Criminal Justice.  If appointed at a higher level, you will be expected to contribute to the coordination of the Criminal Justice programme and the leadership of its future development. This will include extending the reach of our criminal justice degrees through online delivery and growing their international relevance and standing.

You will be expected to help develop bicultural confidence and competence around aspects of crime and criminal justice in a New Zealand | Aotearoa context, and to explore the interactions of Māori and other ethnic groups with the criminal justice system.  You will help to strengthen connections with the criminology and criminal justice sectors and their representatives at local, national and international levels, and explore opportunities for ensuring that the programme has international as well as national relevance and appeal. You will be expected to collaborate with other academics in the Faculty's teaching and research activities, and contribute to initiatives that foster interdisciplinarity across the University. You will achieve and maintain high international standards in teaching and research with measurable impact and maintain and develop collaborations and partnerships with local communities - including hapū, iwi and Māori organisations.  You will be encouraged to develop a strong, externally-funded research programme, and to further enhance the University's reputation as a centre for criminal justice research. 

Mōu | Who You Are
For appointments at a higher level, applicants must hold a PhD degree in a relevant discipline as well as a demonstrated record of published research in criminology and criminal justice (or a closely aligned discipline). For appointments at lecturer level, applicants must be willing to undertake a PhD in a relevant area of study. A background in law and/or employment within the justice sector will be advantageous, as will knowledge of tikanga and te reo Māori and an active and practical knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi in the criminal justice sphere. The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching core and optional courses in criminology and/or criminal justice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and delivering effective teaching (including online teaching to distance learners) that enables a wide range of learners to succeed. They will engage in research and teaching, and disseminate ideas that have social impact. The appointee will demonstrate a background in supervising final year undergraduate projects, Masters and PhD students, an ability to collaborate with others in the University, and an interest in contributing to Faculty and University activities.
