Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington's School of Engineering and Computer Science is pleased to announce an permanent, full-time academic vacancy for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering. Join us in educating the next generation of Software Engineers, and contribute to our internationally ranked research programme.

This academic role encompasses the delivery of high-quality teaching, research and service that supports the school and programme. Applications are welcome from people with experience areas that complement our expertise in Software Engineering including but not limited to:

  • Software supply chain management, including software ecosystems and dependency management, repository mining.
  • Software process and devops, including process automation, automated testing, agile techniques.
  • Software quality and assurance, including automated methods to assess and improve quality attributes of software systems such as testing, verification and program analysis.
  • Software engineering techniques with an emphasis on cloud computing, including cloud-based development and collaboration platforms, virtualisation, cloud storage, data management and API design.

Reporting directly to the Head of School you will:

  • Review and design course content on Software Engineering that is relevant and incorporates new research.
  • Teach in a way that stimulates students’ learning in the discipline in general and in your specialist area.
  • Supervise students undertaking research in your areas of expertise and interest.
  • Undertake innovative and valuable research in Software Engineering and related fields which were appropriate incorporates Maori and Pasifika perspectives and interests, and provides cultural innovation or socio-economic benefits.
  • Engage with key stakeholders including government and professional or disciplinary bodies.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed a PhD in a relevant field.
  • An established track record in research publication, creative work and attracting competitive level funding for research activities.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering a high standard of teaching and supervision of student.
  • Research in a relevant field at tertiary level.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work and engage with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • A proven commitment to the academic discipline, University and their profession.
