Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pūkenga - Lecturer / Pūkenga Matua - Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology, on a permanent, full-time contract in the Te Kura Matauranga - School of Education . This position will commence as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will have relevant academic qualifications and training in Educational Psychology that may include expertise related to the provision of educational and behavioural supports to children and adolescents with, or at-risk of, learning difficulties and/or mental health concerns.
Experience in and knowledge of culturally responsive and appropriate practices in Educational Psychology is essential. In particular, we welcome applications from people with expertise in mātauranga Māori and/or with expertise, knowledge and experience working with Māori and Pacific communities.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Educational Psychology, seek external research funding, and recruit and supervise Masters and PhD students in research topics related to their area of specialisation. Experience in and knowledge of quantitative research methods is desirable.
Contribution to Hautūtanga/leadership to the profession, University, Faculty and School and engagement in scholarly and administrative services is also expected.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in Educational Psychology or a related field of Psychology and have experience and specialisation in applied research related to providing educational and behavioural supports to children and adolescents with, or at-risk of, learning difficulties and/or mental health concerns. Experience in and knowledge of quantitative research methods and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the New Zealand Psychologist Board is desirable. At the Senior Lecturer level, the successful candidate will have a well-established research platform and publication record.
The successful candidate will be able to effectively engage and mentor students from different backgrounds, and also demonstrate the ability to work collegially in a team, contribute effectively to the administration of the programme and provide evidence of a commitment to our obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an academic and professional context. The School of Education holds a commitment to research and teaching that engages mātauranga Māori and the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our team of Educational Psychologists and academics consists of internationally recognised scholars with expertise in a range of areas related to the practice of Educational/School Psychology, including ADHD, Autism, Bullying Prevention, Learning and Motivation, Educational Neuroscience, Human Development, and Mental Health. We have a nationally accredited programme for training Educational Psychologists at the Masters level and strong community connections, including a community-based early intervention centre. You would benefit from joining a collaborative and supportive team of scholars operating within the scientist-practitioner and evidence-based training models.
