Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Professional Teaching Fellow – Lecturer in Teacher Education with a specialisation in at least two curriculum areas. Our preference is for one of these areas to include experience, skills, and knowledge in teaching aspects of te ao Māori. Other preferred learning areas include science and the arts.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced educator in primary school level learning environments, but secondary experience will also be considered. Expertise in one or more of our cross-programme priorities of mātauranga Māori, digital educator, Pacific education, and inclusive education is also desirable. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant field, or other qualifications commensurate with the role.

Applicants will be New Zealand registered teachers (or be eligible for teacher registration) who can undertake visiting student teachers on practicum in schools and teach in the Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Master of Teaching and Learning programmes, for primary student teachers. We are looking for a team player who is able to collaborate with colleagues in teaching and research, and can establish positive, respectful relationships with students.

The appointee will also supervise Masters and PhD students, maintain a programme of research, secure external research funding, and provide service to the School, Faculty, University, community, and profession. We welcome applications from people with research and/or teaching experience in Māori or Pacific communities and schools. Ō pūmanawa - About you
You will have experience of and knowledge about successful teaching in a relevant field at tertiary level or with adult learners. You will also have good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with students, practicing teachers, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. You will need to have current or eligibility to gain teacher registration. This is a permanent position and only applicants who are legally entitled to work in Aotearoa on a permanent basis, will be considered.
